Amb. Gusmardi Bustami is a long-time civil servant who was appointed as the Director General for National Export Development, Ministry of Trade Republic of Indonesia (March 2012). From 2008 to 2012, he served as the Director General for International Trade Cooperation, a period in which he also served as Chairman of ASEAN SEOM (2011) and as Chairman of IPC Council (2011).
He previously served as Indonesia’s Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva. He has headed Indonesia’s National Agency for Export Development, the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency, and the Center for Research and Development. From 1986 to 1995, he served as trade attaché in Copenhagen, London, and Washington, D.C. He was once assumed the roles of Expert Staff to the Minister of Trade Republic of Indonesia, President Commissioner of PT. Sucofindo, and Deputy V of Badan Pengusahaan Batam (BP Batam).
Amb. Gusmardi Bustami obtained his Bachelor degree in Law from Universitas Indonesia.
