Christopher SC Chan joined PT. Gajah Tunggal Tbk., a listed company on Jakarta Stock Exchange, in 1991 as General Manager Finance & Accounting. He was appointed as President Director/CEO in 2004.
He successfully led the company through various economic and market cycles and spearheaded the transformation process of PT. Gajah Tunggal Tbk, Southeast Asia’s largest integrated tire manufacturer, from a family-run business to a professional company driven by Good Corporate Governance. Under his leadership,the company is successfully gone through restructuring and refinancing operations. During his tenure as CEO, the company’s turnover increased twofold to exceed USD1 Billion in 2010. A solid foundation was also established within the company to build a sustainable future with its stakeholders.
Toward his excellences, the company and Mr. Chan himself received multiple awards and acknowledgements including “Best Managed Company in Indonesia” by EuromoneyMagazine”,“Top 10Best Managed Company” by FinanceAsia, “Top 10Best Big Companies” by Forbes Indonesia, and “Top 10 Indonesia Best CEO 2013” by SWA Magazine.
For the recent bond refinancing, the company was acknowledged by receiving “Best Liability Management 2013” Award from The Asset (Asia) and “Best Indonesia Bond 2013” Award from International Financing Review (IFR) Asia. In addition, various sustainability awards were received including “Indonesia Green Company 2014” by SWA Magazine and “SRI-Kehati Award” by Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation (Kehati).
Christopher graduated from Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman (KTAR), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1979. He is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA) of United Kingdom, a member of Chartered Accountants of Malaysia, and a former member of Board of Governors of Malaysian Institute of Internal Auditors. Prior to joining PT. Gajah Tunggal Tbk., he held positions as Internal Audit Manager, Head of Budget, and Financial Accounting Manager with Nestle Malaysia Berhad, Malaysia.
