Dr. Philips J. Vermonte is the Executive Director of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). An in-demand speaker and one of Indonesia’s foremost political observers, Dr. Vermonte’s insights have been sought out by Indonesia’s top politicians, including President Joko Widodo. Over the past fifteen years, he has researched comparative politics, non-traditional security issues in Southeast Asia, Indonesia’s foreign policy, and conflict studies.
Philips J. Vermonte joined CSIS in 2001. He received his Master of Arts degree in International Studies from Department of Politics, the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2001, funded by the AusAID scholarship. He obtained his Ph.D in Political Science at Northern Illinois University, the United States of America, in 2012. He is one of the founding members of the Policy Research Network (ProREP). He is also one of the expert respondents of Metro TV and actively contributes to the Jakarta Post and Tempo Magazine.
Philips J. Vermonte was also the initiator of the POKJA Papua, a non-governmental organization that advocates the democratic principles and human rights fulfillment for the people of Papua.
